REVIEWS
A few times a year, a movie pops up that you just know in your gut is going to be one of those cult movies that gets talked about for years to come. Danni and the Vampire is one of [those] movies. Landau and Kiely are fantastic together in Danni and the Vampire and their instantaneous charisma goes a long way... While Danni and the Vampire is most definitely a horror comedy, Werkmeister’s script also thoughtfully explores the themes of personal gratification and human connection. It's really well written and I loved it. I hope Alexandra Landau goes to appear in loads more movies after this... It's probably edging into my Top Ten horror movies of the year... There's a lot going on. It's funny. It's sweet. It was a winner. Danni and the Vampire is the epitome of a dark comedy... Its quirky style and bright aesthetics are balanced with genuine, Frankensteinian debates on the subjective nature of humanity and how much destruction a person can bring in an attempt to satisfy their goals. |
The film is full of heart and characters that are truly enjoyable to watch... Danni and the Vampire is a fast-paced horror that leans hard into the comedy. It’s a fun ride with a lot to say. Although unequivocally vampiric in nature, the strength of the film resides in its endearing characters, campy black humor, and genuine heart. Just an insane romp of a film. A horror / romantic comedy with style to spare. The two leads have an amazing chemistry. The serious dangers the leads put themselves and others in along the way give it a surprising emotional weight. By its end, Danni and the Vampire brings both comedy and tragedy full circle... There’s so much to love about this movie, and I highly recommend you give it a watch. It is clear [Werkmeister] has established a unique comedic voice and style of filmmaking... He has a clear eye for the absurdity of the world we live in and doesn’t shy from showing us that none of us know what the hell we are doing. We are all lost creatures. |
